The situation
A major university in the midwest wanted to bring in more applicants for their adult online degree programs. Credits needed depended on each applicant’s background: their professional experience, the hours they could commit each week, and the certification credits they’d already earned. A standardized requirement list couldn’t answer the question every prospect had, which was what the program would cost them and how many credits they could eliminate due to professional experiences.
What I built
I built the estimator inside the program’s HubSpot Marketing portal, using a form, calculated properties, and a follow-up email.
- A form of number questions: years of professional experience, hours per week for the program, certification credits earned, and a few more.
- A chain of calculated properties that applies the program’s weighting one step at a time and ends in an estimated “hours bypassed” property.
- A thank-you message that shows the estimate the moment the form is submitted, and a follow-up email with the same number.

Because the math lives in calculated properties instead of custom code, every step is visible on the contact record, and the team can adjust a weight without calling a developer.
What changed
Prospects get a personal estimate as soon as they submit, instead of waiting for a call. Admissions gets a contact record that already holds the estimate and every answer behind it, so the first conversation starts from real numbers.
